Question:

Is it safe to shut off my oil burner while I am on vacation?

My hot water is oil heated and the furnace usually goes on every half hour or so to keep the water hot. I am leaving for a week and since oil is so expensive, is there any harm in shutting off the burner with the emergency shut off switch for the week while I am gone so that I am not unnecessarily burning oil?

  1. It is perfectly fine.  I do it all the time.  Of course if it is below freezing I wouldn't recomend it, but that is just common sense.
