  1. You don't need to move home because of something in the basement. Just call in some kind of exterminator or zoo to come and dispose of it. Sorry about your little dog x*x R.I.P

  2. I'm so sorry about your dog...that would be heartbreaking.  This is going to be a horrible question and sorry in advance.  Did the snake kill the dog by constricting it or with a bite?  If it was constricted then it is a non-venomous snake and it's ok to stay in the house...if the dog was bitten only then the snake is venomous and I probably wouldn't stay in the house with a loose venomous snake.  Either way call animal control and let them know and ask them what to do.

    Good luck!!

  3. Aww! That really sad. :( But I'm not sure if you should stay... The snake might be poisinous if it wasn't and it bit you're dog he wouldn't die... So, idk.

  4. sorry about your dog. i would say you should move.

  5. I would say no because i live in il as well and there arent really any snakes capable of killing a dog unless they are venomous. I have seen a pygmy rattlesnake , copper heads and cotton mouths all around here and they can all kill but nothing else besides an escaped snake or a venomous snake should be able to kill your dog. I would call a pest control to have your house inspected for snakes. There are only 4 native venomous snakes here. I know a pygmy is not native to illinois. Someone let one go and i caught it and had it relocated by someone

  6. Contact your local animal control center and they should send out a volunteer snake wrangler to catch the snake. You should be safe, snakes only strike if they feel threatened, just avoid the basement, if you have to go down there, just be cautious. Snakes are generally rather peaceful and only turn aggresive if they feel that we are acting aggresive. And it wont attack you in your sleep or anything, so dont stress it. Good Luck and Dont Worry!

  7. It not safe to stay in a home with something you are not sure about. I definitely recommend having a professional check out the situation.

A snake can easily hurt a human, and it is not safe to take chances. The snake could be in your home to eat rodents. It is beneficial for you or your parents to schedule an appointment with a professional to determine why the snake was in your basement. If the snake is disposed of, what guarantees do you have that another will not find its home in your residence?

If you knew your dog was killed by a snake in your basement, chances are the snake is poisonous. This is because many constrictors usually eat the animal, and the owners think it is missing, instead of dead.

Once the lures are gone, the snake has no need to be in your home. I highly recommend hiring an exterminator; he/she can assess the likelihood of rodents in your home. Hiring an exterminator is like an insurance policy; the more insured you are, the better you will be in the future.

After all, you can never pay too much for life. It is priceless.

  8. well i would say no, especially if it killed your dog.

it must be a pretty vicious snake..

  9. Ditto what Lorimart said in her answer...if the dog was killed by constriction, the snake was non-poisonous...if by bite, it was venomous and you need an exterminator...

I'm really sorry about your little dog; our dogs are like family, so I understand that you are mourning....

    Good luck!

  10. no the snakes probably poisonousand its probably after you next
