I recently had surgery and my doctor prescribed vicodin as my pain relief, The pills are 500s and I have only taken one at night. Is this safe or can this be harmful to my baby?

  1. i took vicoden after i had my son and it was rx'ed by my obgyn. I was breastfeeding and they said it was fine. As long as you mentioned it to the doctor that rx'ed it then they know they have to stay within certain guildlines for a breastfeeding momma.

  2. Here is some info I found for you:

    Vicodin And Breast Feeding -

Whatever studies have been carried out, found that the filtering of the drug into the milk is too slow and it cannot build up to dangerous levels in majority of the cases. The effect on the baby depends on a number of factors, i.e. age of the infant, weight of the infant, s*x of the infant, and so on. The toxicity of the drug wears off with time, weight or dilution. Hence, experts are mostly of the opinion that vicodin and breast feeding are okay.

    I hope this helps.

  3. I took a few vicodins after the birth of my son; I was breast feeding at the time and it didn't cause him any harm.

If your Doctor knew you were breast feeding when he prescribed the pills, it's not a problem

  4. Seriously?  I'm not trying to be mean - but why are you asking this MEDICAL question to a bunch of non-medical people?

    Ask your doctor or pharmacist!!

This is too serious of a question!!
