  1. by car? , by Bus? by plain?

if you drive a car  with american texas plates  the police is going to ask you to pull over  from time to time that's annoying!....

ASK for info in any mexican consulate  what papers do you need to bring in ytour american car.

  2. Yes, it is safe, and you will not get pulled over just because of your plates.  I am an American living in Mexico and know many others also...we have all driven from the states and throughout Mexico.  Just plan well...you can use the map site below for routes.  Get a Guia Roji, the Mexican road atlas...can order it from Amazon.com.  Get Mexican car insurance...see site below for my favorite. You will need a car permit...see site below.  Just talked yesterday to a couple who drove from New Mexico to Veracruz ibn a camper without incident.   There are military checkpoints, but just be patient, smile, don't act like it bothers you...they are just doing their job.  Have a great trip.

  3. I'm near to León, and I've driven the opposite way: from here to Laredo (actually farther; to San Antonio and San Marcos).

It is very safe, there are many cars here with Texas (and all the other States) plates, it is kind of usual, nobody take cares on that. I guess you already know the highways to take.
