Is it safe to travel in italian trains especially at night?

I plan to take the train from Rome to Milan on my own and I want to know if it's safe and what precautions I need to take. Thanks!

I would worry more in the stations, with the pickpockets, scammers, and all. Make sure you look like you know what you're doing and you'll be fine.

No, nowhere is perfectly safe.

I recently did that trip and wasn't the least bit worried.  Attendants come through the trains regularly.  

The only time you really need to worry is when pulling into a station along the way - Make sure your bags are within your line of sight so that nobody grabs them and gets off the train with them.  This is also a precaution in daytime hours!

There are Taxi's readily available at the Milan Rail Terminal.

I wouldn't Italy is being polluted by scum bags!  It is not the same Italy I left 20 years ago
