  1. Who in the world still says BANDIDOS???

  2. Bullshit. I lived in Sao Paulo almost 10 years and I never saw a single crime. If you hear the news, you would think that people are living in a civil war.

  3. " robberies, hijacks. by bandidos and police " Yea. And that is before you even get into Mexico. The border area is rather unsafe, as are a few town. But all in all, you are usually safer here than north of the border.

  4. Of course it is safe to travel to Mexico.  The media has exagereted all the time.  Try to go central Mexico, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Aguascalientes, Zacatecas, Queretaro or if you want to go to a beach try Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta. Don't be affraid, people in general is very friendly.  Like someone said before, don't act like a rich tourist, just be youself and you will have a good time.

  5. I would not recommend visiting Mexico at this time.  There is a lot going on with the drug cartels.  Tourists used to be relatively safe but not any more.  The more touristy a place is, the more dangerous.

  6. all the danger is found near the border but after that mexico is the very safe. its a nice place to be.

  7. There is a lot of mostly drug related crime close to the border.  The rest of Mexico is MUCH safer.  However, you should hear all the reports of crime in the U.S. that we hear about here in Mexico....it is easy to get an exaggerated view both ways.  Stay out of the drug business and bad areas and you will avoid problems.  If you are going to be close to the border, be with someone else. be aware of your surroundings, carry little cash, don't act like a rich tourist, don't get drunk and stupid...same precautions you should take in the U.S.

  8. "...robberies,hijacks. by bandidos and police..."

Yea, and we ride horses, revolvers hanging in our belts, rifles and "jorongos"... d**n Hollywood! hehe! im kidding...

If you come to Sonora just be careful of the roads...lot of pot holes and a little bumpy...

    Saludos amigo!

  9. Stay out of rough parts of the touristed and sleazy areas. But it's quite safe for the most part. Just use your head a little.

I used to have the same phobia, but no more.

    Viva Mexico!

  10. It is safe to travel in Mexico.

You do not listen the afraid ones. Have fun.

  11. Isolated incidents, big media hype. Don't get drunk and stupid, stay away from scuzzy areas, have fun...its a great country.

  12. I was this summer three weeks in Mexico, with my friend (two women ) and it was wonderful. So, go and enjoy your trip !

  13. Well, dearie...by the tone of your question, I'd say yes, you should stay north of the border.

Some American cities and certain neighborhoods are far more dangerous than any other in Mexico, Iraq, Middle East, etc combined!

There are robberies, thieves, corrupt police officers all over the world...just go and take a look outside your own door.

  14. It depends on where in Mexico you visit. Like most countries, there are good areas and bad areas. You can't generalize about the entire country being safe or unsafe.

You can find more information about crime and safety at the US State Department website. The following link will take you to the section on Mexico. http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/cis_p...

As with any country, just stay out of the high crime areas and use some common sense.
