my tv was dead due to wrong voltage settings, my son plug the tv to 220V instead of 110V, as per ocular inspection i have seen a blown fuse rated 110V, 4Amp, so i removed the fuse but unfortunately there is no available fuse as specified at the electronic store only 250V, 4Amp is available, i bought the fuse and installed to my tv since this is not a very complicated to install and my tv now is functioning well but i have in doubts because of the specs that i didnt follow., please advise if i can use the fuse rated 250V, 4Amp instead of 110V, 4Amp. Any advise may help a lot..... thanks!!!!

  1. 250V 4A would be a good choice.  Getting the original 125V 4A fuse would be a better choice.  An electronics store should be able to order them.

Fuses will blow on either voltage or amperage.  In this case, using a 250V fuse would be OK because >you< are paying attention to the voltage.  HOWEVER, since you could plug the set into 220, you probably should get the lower voltage fuse for continued protection.

You do need to get the amperage correct.  If the unit requires a 4 amp fuse, it probably needs that much current.  Going larger on amperage would not protect the equipment.  Going smaller would cause the fuse to blow under normal operation.

BTW, how did your son plug the set into 220?  The prongs on the outlets are supposed to be different to prevent that very thing!

I hope this helps.  Please return and select a Best Answer from all of those submitted.

  2. I'm pretty sure that it's the amperage (the current carrying capacity) that's the important thing, so you should be OK, but I'm not an electrician.
