Is it safe to use a 4 ohm woofer on an 8 ohm system?

350w, 4 ohm 10" woofer on a 100 watt, 8 ohm home system.

  1. It will be safe for the woofer, since the amp will have the capability of driving 200W into it, but the 350W woofer can handle it.

    However, it may not be safe for the amplifier.  The amp may not be able to drive 200W into the speaker and may overheat.  Read the specs on your amp and look at the recommended speaker impedances and stay withing those guidelines.

    If the amp cannot handle 4 ohms, consider using two of those woofers in series.
