Is it safe to use a dimmer on a celine fan?

i have an automation package where i can control lights and appliances with my computer or a remote. I have a celine fan/light, and I'm wanting to dim the light. The problem is I only have a single switch for both the fan and light. The fan is one of those 3 click pull stings that has 3 speeds. I'd like to know if its safe/ok to use a dimmer on the fan? Can anyone help me?

Yes, Celine Dion fans deserve the dimmer.  Oh, ceiling fans....nevermind.
