Is it safe to use a wood fire if the glass is cracked?

There are lots of long cracks shotting out from a center bit (were i smashed it into some wood sticking out) =( .. It it safe to keep the fire going? Also how much will it cost to replace (AUS$)? It about 50x25cm. Thankyou all who reply.

  1. Im not sure about the price to repair it, you'd need to call somewhere.. but where :S aha.. Try a general handy man.

    But it's fine to keep the fire going. The point of the glass there is to stop the flame getting out / hands and objects getting in.

    I'd be keeping more of an eye on it though, until it's repaired.


  2. It is safe,but not to pretty. Check on line for places like, Wood Stoves, BBQ's, Hearth and Home. They might have them . The glass is a heat treated tempered glass so normal glass just won't do. It can't be cut after it has been treated only before it has. Try the manufacturer. In America I would try, Hearth Hearts, Fireplaces.com Good Luck I hope you find the size you need. Byee

  3. should be safe unless you're burning it jammed full of soft woods and the glass starts shaking...  should be able to find replacement for around 40 dollars ( plus new seals ) and it doesn't need to be from a heater shop... try your local glazier - they should be able to order some in far cheaper.
