in a tank with a ball python or corn snake. I know you should use the reptile aspen but is there any serious concern.

  1. I've never used it myself, but I wouldn't think it would be a problem

  2. Unless you are talking about putting used rodent litter in with your snakes, then I don't see a problem with it.  If you were putting used rodent litter in for your snake it would be unsanitary, of course, it would also put your snakes in a heighten food mode because of the smell from the rodents.

I've noticed at my petstore they market reptile aspen and rodent aspen.  I believe all of them are the same, they're named different for a marketing ploy.  Just be sure when you buy the aspen, (if you want to go with rodent aspen) that there are no deoderizers or added chemicals to the aspen.  Un chemcially treated aspen has a woodsie smell to it.  Just so know.

    Best of luck!

  3. That is fine....they're the same thing.

  4. i use just regular aspen bedding for all my snakes. every professional ball python breeder i have come across says aspen is one of the best choices for substrate. i dont see why rodent aspen would be any different from "reptile" aspen

  5. Aspen bedding is aspen bedding. There is nothing in the manufacturing process that makes one for rodents and one for reptiles. If you are buying aspen bedding with a picture of a reptile on the bag you are likely paying more then you have to. Ordinary items that are marketed as reptile products tend to be very over priced. It is cheaper by the large bag, usually sold as rodent bedding. It will say "heat treated" or "kiln dried" and usually "laboratory grade" on the bag, that means it is clean and safe.
