They seem to be reputable (based on what's on their website), but have others used this site? I might buy a cruise from them as the rates are very good!

Thanks a lot! xx

  1. Well one good thing to remember is: If it is to good to be thrue then it isnt so if theyre just to cheap then its something wrong. Johan

  2. Find a good travel agent.  Interview them like you would any other service you may use.  A good agent will get you great prices and do the work for you.  They can sell at what the cruise lines sell for, they get the commissions or you pay the agent on the phone working for the Cruise line.  Just make sure they are not adding additional fees.  Finding a good agent is worth it.

  3. I booked a cruise through Royal Caribbean and was curious to see what other prices were out there. I could not find any cheaper prices at all. IMO I would just use the actual company and not any of those strange ones.

  4. Well, AffordableTours.com is a "Satisfactory" member of the Better Business Bureau.  Looking at http://www.BBBOnline.org, there are some complaints about them, but nothing that wasn't eventually resolved.

That said, they don't have a low price guarantee so you might want to shop around a little more.

I respect Tinker's advice to check with the cruise line directly; the sites have a lot of information, and their phone agents are usually helpful and more knowledgeable than most travel agents.  But I'd offer two caveats.  (1) The cruise lines will only be able to tell you about their own products (obviously) so you'll need to check several sites, and (2) Carnival is the only one that strictly enforces level pricing between travel agencies and direct sales.  For RCI, NCL, etc., sometimes travel agencies get you better deals.

So, do you research, shop around, and have a great trip.

If you'd like some background on picking a cruise (destination, cruise line, ship) that best fits your needs (style, price, activities), you might enjoy this article on choosing a cruise:

  5. Why use a tours site when you can go directly to the cruise line web sites, pick from accurate information on many more cruises; compare exactly what the cruise lines are offering and then know that you are dealing with a valid and reputable site.

The cruise line sites have many discounts listed on links right on their web pages.  Carnival and Celebrity and Royal Caribbean have great web sites for finding specials.  Royal C actually lists a link to their specials in RED on their home.

Compare what you find on the AffordableTours site with what is on the cruise line sites.

I book all of the time right on the cruise line web sites and when I have a question I can call the cruise line directly and get an answer.
