You'll be fine as long as you don't hang around parts of downtown. The Buckhead area (uptown) is pretty safe, and there are a lot of great hotels there. Atlanta is just like every other big city in the way that there is crime, but you just need to know where to be and when.

Yes, it is safe to visit Atlanta.  I've lived in Atlanta for 7 years and I've never been a victim of any kind of crime.   Just don't walk alone at night, beware of surroundings, don't go into areas that you don't feel safe - use common sense.

omg shut up i live here its great! ya there are rough parts of town but dont go there go to buckhead and west paces thats where us private school kids hang out. atl is kind of boring but no, you will not get shot as long as you avoid like mcdaniel street.

Its like any other big city, there are bad areas and good areas, just use your common sense.

You're probably more likely to get shot or something in Detroit, Memphis or St. Louis.

I lived in a suburb of Atlanta for most of my life. I went down to Atlanta for sporting events, concerts, to the zoo, museums, etc etc. Never in almost 30 years have I been shot, stabbed, robbed, or whatever else. Atlanta is like any other city...you need to pay attention to the area you are in (b/c there are some rough areas...but you'll know them immediately and they are NOT where the tourists hang out) So as long as you pay attention to your surroundings you'll be fine!

i was suppose to go this summer for a family vacation

and my family checked it all out

and they said it wasnt safe enough for me to go

so we went somewhere else instead

but my aunt went and she said it wasnt really exciting..

uhh....haha. i went there last summer for the junior olympics for volleyball and we snuck out in the middle of the night from our hotel room and roamed the city.

It's about as safe as any other large city. Stay out of the bad parts of town and you'll be fine. I go to Atlanta alot...
