  1. Very safe, unless you mix up with the trouble makers!

  2. Yes.  I have not heard of a riot in France since last year.  There are not frequent riots in France, just a lot of publicity when it happens.  Two 1 day "riots", more like protests, ends up taking 2 weeks  of news coverage.

To be safe, keep an eye for groups of mass people looking like a protest and just keep away from it.  My co-worker with family and a friend was visiting Paris during the student protests.  Even had a subway stop below the protest/riot and didn't even know it was happening above them, until they got back.

Also, the protests/riots did not happen at tourist spots.  If one were to happen, you should not be affected by it.

  3. Paris is safe to visit.  The areas where the riots have been in general aren't where tourists would go anyway, in the poor suburbs where the HLM are (these are French housing projects for people on low incomes) and even then they were generally after dark in those areas.  Take the normal big city precautions in Paris of course, i.e., be mindful of pickpockets in crowded areas, don't walk around in poorly lit areas at night, etc. and you will be fine.  I feel more comfortable walking around at night by myself in Paris than I do in most big American and British cities.

  4. I live in Paris and have never seen any trouble here, unless I have been watching the TV here.

I think it is very safe, and people look at it bad because of what they see on the news. Paris is a very large city. Don't get your hopes up about it.

  5. Yes Paris is safe, its suburb can be dangerous though but the places of interest are safe.

Thank you the medias, because of you, foreigners see riots everywhere in France...!

    Enjoy your trip

  6. no place is totally safe, and tourists do seem to have that look about them - but if you are alert and careful you can travel anywhere

  7. Riots are not frequent. And when they do happen, they generally take place in suburbs north of the city, as opposed to the city proper.

  8. That was a few years ago.  There are no more riots.  Even when the riots were happening that was far outside of Paris (in the banlieue).

  9. The majority of the riots a couple of years ago were concentrated on the north east and eastern suburbs of Paris vis: Clichy sous Bois & Rosny sous Bois.

There were also problems in the southern suburbs of Grigny, Evry & Corbeil-Essonnes.

In the main any problems of this nature tends to happen in the high rise "cités" and not the sort of areas that tourists generally visit.

I suggest that you pay more attention to pickpockets on the métro and beggars in tunnels between stations. Beware, some are children and they are very cunning.

Also take care on the RER suburban trains, which can occasionally have people using scams to try and get some money from you. Not something that happens all the time, but frequent enough for you to be on your guard.

  10. yes it is, so long as you keep posted with the news and stay away from possible areas where riots occur.
