  1. All things considered, you are as safe (or unsafe) anywhere since terrorism is all over the world now. Specifically, Turkey is a relatively safe country with a strong government (some constitutional uncertainty though these days) and a police force so there is, again relatively speaking a lot of control and supervision. Event though, it happened. You can now hope that since it happened already, chances are it won't happen again. May be yes, may be no, definitely maybe. Trust your instincts, check if your government has a travel warning on Turkey and do what you feel best about. Worrying, unfortunately, doesn't help.

  2. I am sure it will be very safe, or as safe as any big city nowadays. It seems the bombers were targeting Turkish citizens rather than tourists. The authorities will have clamped down on security so now is probably the safest time to go.

Enjoy your trip, it is a fantastic city.

PS. A recommendation - if you feel like a break from the city heat and noise, take a ferry trip to the Princes Islands.

  3. There is a great site on US Travel warnings.  Turkey isn't currently on warning list, but it has been in the past.  There is a ton written about the current bombings which you should read and decide for yourself.  The bombings  have not been in tourist spots and no tourist buses have been hit, but  there is definitely a terrorist presence.  Istanbul is a beautiful city, but check out the facts.  Look all over this site and you'll have plenty of info to make your decision.
