  1. I've been to Brixton market and around the busy shopping area and it was great ... because I don't know the area and because of the reputation I didn't stray any further ... chances are there are loads of areas you could walk around Brixton during the day just fine but it's knowing where not to go that's important

(I'm white by the way but I don't think it makes that much difference)

  2. It depends, if you go to the gangy area's. if its a gang area i strongly advise you dont go coz its them with the weapons, but most other places are ok. I mean but theres always a risk from other crazy nutters.

and these attacks arent racially motivated so it doesnt matter what you skin colour is.

  3. yes its fine just try to stay away from the tower block council estates in the area if you are worried for safety there are a few gangs there

  4. My brother whos mixed race (black/white) lived there for 22 years, and recently moved to Thornton Heath a few months ago.  So he invited me, my other brother and mum up there.  Me and my other brother are english (born here etc, but our dad is asian).   Different Dads.

Anyway, we got the train there, that was fine, got on the tube, was a little crowded, but when is it not?  I was 13 then and was not scared at all, they seem really nice from my point of view, its a real kind of market just randomly outside and then a row of shops etc.  But maybe because my brother was from there and very familliar with place, i wasnt to worried.  But i didnt get any funny looks from black/white/asian people while there, so i give it thumbs up! :)

To one of the other answers above mine.

I dont see why you would be going to council estates, when your going to the market.  But if you do wonder around the council estate, just walk fast, dont look around, dont stop and dont stare at people (especially gangs), they seem to take it the wrong way.

  5. The market is very close to the tube station & the police station in Brixton is also very close to the market - if you look at the link to the map, if you follow from Brixton Station to where the Brixton Academy is, the police station is virtually opposite the Academy so you can head there if you feel under threat:

I've been there a few times to see bands at the Brixton Academy and to catch the bus from there to Camberwell, I feel a twinge of something when I'm walking around but it's more to do with the fact that I'm in a strange area then to do with it's reputation.
