Is it safe to walk into Best Buy and buy a camcorder and assume that Windows Vista will work with it?

I really want a camcorder, but I am worried that either the camcorder or the software that comes with it will not work with my Windows Vista computer. Will Best Buy allow me to return the camcorder if Vista doesn't work?

Your best bet is to check with the manufacturer support site of the camera you are planning to purchase about Vista compatibility issues if there are any.

One item you are neglecting... If you decide to get a miniDV tape based camcorder, does your computer have a firewire 400 port? That is the only way the video will import from the camcorder to the computer.

Not all hard drive based or flash memory based camcorders or the manufacturers have updated their USB drivers to work with Vista. Pick the camera - then check the camcorder discussion forum at CNET.com. Post the question.

If all seems OK, THEN buy the camera.

PLEASE DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER. The video quality - especially for editing on your computer - is terrible.

Yes 99% it will work now that everything has come over to Vista. There should be a logo on the box that says Vista certified or just ask a bestbuy seller they will help you out. Also look on the internet for more information or on your website about supportive Vista software/hardware. Vista is not as bad as people say it is.

As for the return policy im sure you can take it back, maybe with a small fight, I won a PSP from a graduation party last year took it to bestbuy with no receipt, told them the story got a free 180 dollars to spend on something good.

It is safe , but don assume i will said ask first, and buy after. They are very good on giving you the correct advice . And yes they will take back your return with the store rules. Make sure you safe the box and your ticket .take the name from the sales person who give you the advice that  will work in your favor if it will not work with your Vista computer,  that way you are cover with the store Manager remember this: "costumer is always wright " they want you happy so you buy always more.
