Question:

Is it safe to wear 1 month contact lenses?

I just ordered a 6 month supply of lenses a few days ago. And I was told that a pair would last one month.

now, I bought it from the same store (pearl vision) that my friend bought hers at. she's now telling me to go get my money back because i am being 'ripped off' and she has told me that 1 month lenses are rarely sold, because they can build up bacteria more and damage the eye more as they last for a month.

she recommended i go to another eye doctor. but i'm not sure what i should do. i haven't received my lenses yet, but I was wondering if wearing 1 month disposables is safe enough... or should I be skeptical of possibly being ripped off?

help >_<

  1. Your friend is absolutely right, the problem with those lenses is that they don't let the eye get as much oxygen as they need, which is why it's best to let the eyes rest and get the oxygen and nutrients that they need. Also they really need to be cleaned well to get the bacteria and buildup off of them.

  2. I have monthly contacts and there's no problem with mine and if you brought them back, you would just make your optician mad because he would have to give you a different brand and a new test. As long as you keep doing what the optician told you, you won't have an issue. I have colored contacts that last a month and clear ones that last 2 weeks so you should just keep them.

  3. Your friend has no clue what she is talking about....you aren't being ripped off...

There is nothing wrong with monthly disposables...millions wear them. They are about as healthy as the 2 week disposables, and much more cost effective.

At least 75% of my contact lens patients wear monthly disposables, and there aren't any more problems that there are with bi-weekly lenses .

Your eyes get all the oxygen they need with them...1 month isn't enough time for protein buildup on the lenses...

Just be sure to disinfect/clean/store them right, and don't overwear them, and you will be fine.

And...it will cost you half as much as your friend.

  4. Yes it is safe to wear one month contact lenses and you do not need to return them. I wear purevision toric and they are 30 day lens. I usually get about 45 days worth of wear out of them because I clean them very well.

I keep my contact very clean and remove it every night and I have never experienced any problems and have even been commended by my doctor about how well I care for my lens and my eyes. I only wear a contact in my left eye so the doctor can compare the care to my right eye.

  5. I would recommend getting dailies because if something happens to the monthlies then you can be SOL.
