  1. trains are cool

  2. No difference,  and both much safer than highway travel.

Like anywhere else,  you must always be aware of your surroundings,  don't stay any where you don't feel comfortable.    Stay alert walking through stations and airports,   you will have you troubles there.

  3. Both ar very, very safe indeed. You could spend a lifetime travelling by either option & come nowhere near any danger. So don't worry about it,chill out & enjoy!

  4. enjoy the train ride. all the people i've met on the train were friendly. take some games or a deck of cards if this is a long journey. you can always find someone to talk to or play a game of cards with.

  5. there is not much of any thing to really worried about willie riding a train. great way to travel and a few people say after a really bad plane experience they only take trains. in USA we have many safety standards for both ways of transportation. and both sure of it air lines are sure that plane wont crash that there is no parachutes in plane and rail roads have all metal cars that wont crush even if fell in to a gorge. all so in US there is railroads that sit on the edge of cliffs but all of those are now only ridden for fun not for transport (Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad) and thay do not fall off the tracks.

Offical numbers say that Railroads Revenue - per passenger mile=26.0¢ Energy consumption - per passenger mile=2,100 BTUs Safety - Deaths per 100 million passenger miles=0.03 deaths  air planes Revenue - per passenger mile=12.0¢ Energy consumption - per passenger mile=3,297 BTUs Safety - Deaths per 100 million passenger miles=0.02 deaths

there you go even thow in my opion that a train is much safer and one reason the rails have even any deaths not becuse of crashes is becuse a lot of old men take a train right before they about to die so die wille onbord. they take this last trip becuse they use to work for railroads or some thing like that.

  6. Ive been on 1 train ride (My Old Kentucky Dinner train). and it was fun! I want to go across country in one some day...while Im still young

  7. Train travel is wonderful and safe. In fact, you are in more danger driving to the station than on the train.

In 2006 there were 3 1/2 million car accidents.  43 thousand people died. (national hwy saftey stats)

The odds being in a plane crash and dying are 1 in 10.6 mil

(the problem I have with planes is that when they fall out of the sky they hit really hard.  The odds of survival aren't that good, only 32%.  Though that is much higher than I thought it was)

Last year the Federal Railroad Agency says they carried

481,639,620 passengers on all trains.  ONLY 61 died in accidents.

So...you can see that it is a very safe way to travel.

As for being mugged....I have never had that experience.  I have found train travel to be really a lot of fun.

Make sure you don't just stay in your car.  Go visit the observation car, the dining car, club car.  It can be a lot of fun to ride and there are a lot of people to meet and visit with.

So go have a good time and don't worry!!!

  8. I've travelled on long distance trains in Germany, China and Australia and didn't have any experience of mugging or general bad behaviour. Just be careful by placing your bag between you and a wall, holding on to it or somewhere you can see it every now and then.

Trains generally don't crash, considering their hundreds of trips a year... Of course every now and then you will get a crash. But its the same with cars, out of the millions of trips people make a year only a few thousand are reported. Same with planes, there are only a few plane crashes a year, compared with the many a thousand trips made. Same with walking, there are only a few thousand fatalities compared with the millions and millions of walks people do a year.

Lighten up, enjoy the scenery and relax. You'd find the constant click-clacking, the constant speed, low hum of the engine, passing by of trees, fields and mountains and low chatter of people very soothing.

Hope you enjoy your first ride...

  9. Airplanes fall out the sky.....buses crash.....trains wreck.....cars wreck....if it will happen it will happen....

  10. Both rail travel and air travel are very safe--safer than driving your own car by a large margin.

It is a good idea to keep an eye on your personal belongings if you are in a coach seat, but the fear that something really serious will happen to you is misplaced.

So go on and take the train.  Don't be afraid.  It is very safe.  I flew airliners for ten years and never had any trouble.  Now I take the train every chance I get.  Never had any trouble there, either.

    Have fun!

  11. Dont worry about it, I have been railroading more or less every day since 1973 and I have not been injured yet.

You are much much safer on a train than the cab ride to the station.

And just for the record, you are much much more likely to survive a train crash (in the highly unlikely event that you in one) than a plane crash.

You will not get mugged and you will have a great journey, relax and enjoy.

  12. Mugged?  Not likely.  Wreck?  More probable in the southeast.  Death?  Even if you add in the 49 victims of the Bayou Canot massacre, the total passenger deaths AMTRAK don't even come close to one plane crash.  On the whole, walking is safest -- but if you have to travel, take the train.
