As if we should be pity on her to be killed as a woman rather than a soldeir who died for a noble cause.

isnt this the root of division and discrimination on part of media.

  1. Well I think most people still assume there are more men than women in the military (which may be true) and if you say "4 soldiers dead" most will assume all 4 were men. So it's right to mention that one was a woman so we don't forget that women are out there putting their lives on the line too.

  2. I feel strongly that the media does overplay this. We don't get, "4 soldiers were killed, including one black and one Roman Catholic"

Women soldiers nowadays train and serve with men, and live in the same barracks, or tents, or caves, or disused factories. The media shouldn't divide soldiers by gender any more than the army does.

  3. Yes it is as a matter of fact. The gender division is prevalent so much deeply in our psyches that the discrimination is manifested very clearly in all the social, political and economic institutions, even in the west. A statement or news item like this.... is where this unfortunate division starts taking place and goes on further and deepens its roots from there on.

I wish that time comes when they will just broadcast...4 dead, and thats all...does it really matter if one of them was women?
