Is it sexist that...?

On Yahoo Answers, when you have no avatar, it is a picture of what is clearly a male silhouette? Do you find that to be sexist?

No, I find it annoying because I do not know if I am talking to a man or woman...or child.

I didn't think of it that way, but I do think they should have two, a girl and a boy, and use one based on your gender.

Wouldn't worry about it too much.  Those who are too lazy to customize their avatar are unlikely to kare about it's silhouette.

Actually, I've seen plenty females that fit that silhouette just fine.  So, nope, it's fine as it is.

In fact, it's sexist to think that a woman must have long hair.

Yes. They could just choose a gender neutral icon to be the default icon. If it was feminine icon (doesn't have to be long hair, but it does look like a man's silhouette) instead of a masculine icon, you can bet there'd be a lot more complaints about it. It makes "Male" norm and "Female" other, which is one of the facets of sexism.

This site along with the internet was originally designed by men for men, but for the sake of political correctness women are also allowed to use it, thats why the original avatar is still a male silhouette.

No, it's not sexist, just makes it difficult to tell if I'm talking to a man or woman. I like your airplane pic though. My husband and I enjoy airplanes and always try to attend air shows when possible. ♥ ∞

that's just a shadow s it's not sexist,but you want to know what is sexist when people only use the word man for something negative like "gunman" because as far as I know I have seen alot of women who shoot people.
