  1. NO that would not be shallow.  If this is one of those "hey look at me adoptions", then yes that's shallow.  If the adoption is soley based on the child's looks, then yeah, that's kinda shallow.

Adoption is a means to provide a loving, caring and stable home and environment for a child where race shouldn't even be a factor.

  2. It is most definately not shallow... It very selfless, and a kind act when anyone adopts a child either from their race or another.

  3. why would that be shallow?

  4. why would it be shallow?  You aren't racist by any chance are you?

  5. Not usually, no.

  6. nope i dont think its shallow. some ppl adopt children of other races because thier own country makes it hard to adopt within

  7. Why would that be shallow?  Shallow is adopting a baby because you think she's pretty and you only want a pretty baby.  Shallow is adopting a baby with the nicest clothes on.  Shallow has nothing to do with race.

Adopt within your race or outside your race.  It doesn't really matter as long as that baby gets a loving, caring home.

  8. Why would it be?

Unless they just wanted to have some kind of "exotic-looking" baby and that was the only reason they adopted...

  9. It depends on the intention behind the action.

Are they adopting the child because they want a child to love and raise, or are they adopting the child to draw attention to themselves.

If they are doing it out of love, no it's not shallow.

If they are doing it to gain attention, then yes, it is.

  10. I think that a family must do what is best for them! Whether that entails adopting someone of the same race (or color) as them, adopting a child w specials needs, an infant, a waiting child, etc.

Nobody can tell you what is best for you family except for you!

The bottom line is...all orphans need families...and anyone that has the heart and courage to adopt a child is a HERO in my book! : )

  11. No, it's shallow to NOT adopt them just because they're another race. Quite the opposite.

  12. This is such a toughy!!  I actually have an adopted step daughter who was adopted from Asia.  There a many problems with attachment issues with adopted children to begin with but, there is also the physical differences that she is aware of within the family unit.  I think that if you and your spouse/significant other are VERY solid in your relationship with each other, it is a very doable thing.  Unfortunately for my step daughter, her mom hit the pavement, for another man, very shortly after she was adopted....my husband and I met and married several years after this but it still has created a whirlwind of problems for her to trust and blend within a now normal structure.  Shallow is the last word that comes to mind to ones that want to adopt....it is a lot of work and commitment involved and a stable foundation is very vital for these little one to evolve from their circumstances.  I hope this helps!!  Good Luck!

  13. NAW, I love him from the top of his head to the tips of his toes, no matter what color they came in.

  14. I think its a beautiful thing to accept a child into your home through adoption regardless of race.  When we had trouble conceiving, my husband and I considered adoption and definitely would have been open to a child of a different race.

  15. No. I'm adopted, my parents are white and i'm african american.

  16. NO.  ITS NOT SHALLOW.

    WHY WOULD IT BE?

  17. no its not shallow. Race shouldn't matter

  18. Well it depends. If there is a happy couple who adopt a baby that is a different race because they just happened to fall madly in love with it that is not shallow. If a couple goes around specifically looking for a baby of a different race because it will look "exotic" or for it to be a sort of "trophy baby" and they have no intentions of adopting a child that is too "ordinary" that would be shallow.

  19. I'm not sure that I understand the question, but I have a thought.  To adopt in most cases is a very involved process, that a shallow person wouldn't necessarily want to go through.  Also, raising a child from another race, and doing it well means raising them and educating them on their heritage, also a fair bit of work, so that doesn't feel shallow either.  If someone is vain and is worried about losing their figure by going through a pregnancy, and only wants a child as an "accessory", and chooses a child from another race because it seems "the it thing to do" - that would be shallow!

  20. This is about loving and raising a child so race should not matter

  21. It depends on their 'reason'...but for the most part if they genuinely want to adopt a babe of another 'race' in order to provide a loving home for them, no I see nothing wrong with that.

  22. no i dont think its shallow but i do think it makes a difference if the person is adopting a child of another race for attention. believe it or not i do know people who adpoted children from another race for the shock value or to have a conversation piece. they know whereever they go people are going to question them or ask about the child. and they like this. it gives them attention and something to talk about. i think people who are like this are shallow and sad. they need attention so bad. i have a friend who likes to be seen in public with another friend's daughter bc the child is of a different race. she loves the attention it gets her from people who other wise wouldnt notice her. its sick to me for an adult to be that attention starved.

  23. Why the h**l is that shallow? I was born in south korea and was adopted by an american couple when I was six months old. I was born with two birth defects that wouldn't be able to get fixed in Korea because my parents were poor, so I was better off being adopted.

  24. No I don't think its shallow but adoptive parents must be aware that members of society are shallow and will be very racist towards that child.

A child will feel his differences very acutely.

  25. Race should never be a consideration one way or another.  Suitability of the parents is a question.  Health history of the child is a consideration.  All adoptions are a very serious matter and should be well thought out and the consequences considered thoroughly.  Using race as any sort of condition within the equation is what is shallow.

  26. No, not at all.  Race doesn't matter when adopting.  What would be shallow is if the aparents ignored the possibilities of any problems that may arise for the child because of being an interracial adoptee.

  27. No.

  28. no. why would that be shallow

  29. The fact they can look beyond race is wonderfully if more people could do this it would be a much better world.
