In FSX when i open the GPS, it says "KSEA - WP1" and also shows my nm. Is the distance it shows the distance to my waypoint or my destination?

  1. The waypoint called KSEA is the airport itself.  There's usually a specific point on the airport that is used as the exact location of the airport when you enter KSEA into the GPS.  It's a waypoint, but it's a waypoint for the airport.

If you enter simply SEA, you get the VOR at the airport, not the airport itself, although they are usually pretty close to each other.

In general, arbitrary waypoints (not associated with anything on the ground) have five-letter names, airports have four-letter names, VORs and some NDBs have three-letter names, other navaids (including some NDBs) have two-letter or (in some countries) single-letter names.  Usually you plan your route using the five-letter waypoints, three-letter VORs or NDBs, and four-letter airports.

Be advised, however, that the GPS in FSX/FS9 doesn't work exactly like the real thing, and that large airliners don't use GPS units to begin with.  Airliners have flight management computers, and their GPS units are automatically controlled by the FMCs.

  2. if your virtual GPS does not have a page with virtual flight plan, where you could see the distances, then you are really f*ed up and would have to rely to your virtual map and virtual ruler and virtual calculator to calculate the virtual distances.

if the GPS provides the direct to page /KLN 90 D/T4 page - you canread there the ETA - you can easily calculate the distance by multiplying the time by your airspeed. not that precious, but working.

  3. OMG, its to the wayPOINT!!!!

OMG, most Nav systems work this way!!

OMG, it depends on the system that you are using for navigation.

  4. Waypoint
