Is it smart to get a promise ring?

Me and my bff were reading these magazines and it said that nick,miley and selena gomez have these promsie rings.For you's who dnt noe wat tht is its a ring that you get from your parents saying that you promise to not make love untill your married..Me and her thought it was an awesome idea and that we should get one..

do you think it would be smart?

it depends on the person. if you plan on waiting until marriage for s*x, then you should get a promise ring. but you have to be committed to it. the thing with promise rings is to let everyone else know that you want to wait until marriage. so its like giving guys a heads up if they just want girls for s*x. you have to be confident in it enough to let the rest of the world know you're going to wait.

and you shouldn't rely on other people's opinions on this. it is totally up to you. in my case, i'm not willing to make that promise because i'm not sure if i'm going to wait until marriage. i doubt it.

haha thats not wat a promise ring is.. a promise ring is a ring that u give ur boyfriend or girlfriend stating that u will always have each other or watever u want to promise each other.... what u r talking about is an abstinence ring.

I'm not sure how old you are but it's a wonderful idea.

Good for you to respect yourselves and want to have a pure relationship to start when you get married.

Discuss this with your parents and if you go to church then talk to your minister as well. They'll be very supportive and will explain and answer everything much better.

Actually a promise ring is what is given as a promise to marriage. So these girls have gotten rings from their boyfriends as a sort of pre-marriage proposal, meaning that some day they intend to get properly engaged.

So, maybe you & your friend should rethink getting those rings.

However, the idea is a good one and if you are young then its definitely smart& ssafe for you & your friend to take a no-s*x pact.
