Is it smart to leave the air conditioner on when you're on vacation?

While on vacation is it smart to keep the a/c on the warmest setting than shut it off? It's been 100-105 out all summer and I'm concerned that kind of heat may damage records, stereos, etc. I would also like to save money on my electric bill, so I have a dilemma....

  1. Yup, that's good. In other words, that's what you call putting the A/C in auto mode.

  2. nothing is going to be damaged by 100 degree heat.  do yourself and the universe a favor and turn it off

  3. Yes, I think it is a good idea.  I usually set ours on about 88 while on vacation.

  4. Turn the ac off while you are gone. Since you won't be there it's a good idea in case anything sparks and starts a fire.

  5. If you are only gone a week or so, shut it off.  The house will be fine.  Close the drapes to help keep the sun out.

  6. leave it on at a higher setting...have seen several times in the dallas area where people went on vacation to return to mold all inside the home because of the humidity that built up with the air off.
