Is it still hurricane season?

I'm traveling to Houston for a few days, and I really just want to know if I should take a jacket in case of rain. Does anyone know if it's been nasty down there? How predictable is Texas weather?

  1. Take an umbrella or buy one if it rains. There will  most likely not be a hurricane, and even if there was, a jacket is way too hot.

No one in Fl or Texas wears rain jackets. You would sweat to death in them.

  2. Yes... and if you are good,  it won't be extended to December...

  3. The Hurricane season just began- June 1st & lasts until the end of November... Right now there are NO Tropical Disturbances ANYWHERE in the Gulf or the Atlantic... So other than the possibility of a Thunderstorm or Two & LOTS of Hot, Humid weather- you should be fine. Have a good trip!  :)

  4. Take a rain jacket.  Although you typically get a good amount of warning for an imminent hurricane, summer showers can and will spring up at any time.  Houston weather is actually not that predictable, as it is a somewhat tropical climate without the predictability of the every-day afternoon "heat" shower that a lot of tropical climates experience.

It's better to be safe than sorry!

  5. Hurricane season ends November 30.  Houston is normally a very hot and muggy city and it rains about once every four days - although it's not unusual at all for it to rain for days at a time.  A typical summer day in Houston is about 96 degrees with an occasional afternoon thunderstorm.

Don't bring a jacket - you'll just be hot wearing it.  Bring an umbrella instead.  Right about now, expect temperatures in the low to mid 90s and expect the low to be no less than 73 degrees.  Be thankful you're not going in August - that's when the heat peaks out (not unusual to reach over 100).

As far as hurricanes go, there's nothing to indicate that a hurricane is coming in the near future.  If you're staying for a couple of weeks, a hurricane is certainly possible, but not likely.  If you're staying for the whole summer, you could get a hurricane, but more than likely you'll get a tropical depression or a tropical storm every now and then.  Last summer, I don't think Houston got any hurricanes.

Flooding can be a problem in Houston.  It can rain for weeks at a time, and because Houston is close to sea level and flat, the city is prone to flooding.  But there's really nothing you can do about that.

Bring light clothes - shorts, tank tops, t-shirts, etc.  You won't need a jacket or a sweater unless you're someone who normally gets cold indoors.  But expect to be hot and sticky while you're there.  Bring a good deodorant.

I disagree about the weather not being predictable.  Houston is either hot and muggy or hot and muggy with rain.  Either way, you're always wet.

  6. Technically hurricane season lasts until the 30th of November.  Texas weather is pretty predictable.  Just check the forecast at weather.gov.

They'll take care of you :)
