Is it still okay to cash a check I got 2 months ago as a gift?

I graduated in the middle of May and just found a graduation gift of $50 hidden in a card on my desk. It was from a relative I love but don't see often... what should I do? Cash without contacting? (Then send a thank-you.) Call and ask?

  1. Some checks have a special life, look on the front of it to see if there are any special notes of how long it's good for (may be 90 days).  But, yes, do cash it rite away, then send a thank-you card.  If you like, you can say briefly that the card was misplaced.

  2. cash it, it will be fine.

  3. Yes but cash checks as soon as you get them.  Its considered rude to wait that long.

  4. Yes-cash it right away.   Usually they are good for 6 months or more.  You don't need to call them.

  5. Yes it is.

  6. It's OK to cash it but if the person is not that rich, it would be good for you to call them ahead of time to say thanks for the gift, so they know you do plan to cash it and they can make sure there is still money in the account.

  7. Yes-cash the check and send a thank you ASAP.  Your relative will probably be grateful to be able to balance the checkbook and also to know you received the gift.  This has happened to me a time or two in the past.  The check should still be good.

    Congratulations on your graduation!

  8. Send thank you card and cash it.

  9. I would call and let them know what happen. and i am sure they would want you to cash it.

  10. Cash the check (it should be good for 6 months) and be sure to send a thank you note.

  11. Absolutely. The check was written to you as a gift, and is rightfully yours. Cash the check and respectfully send a "thank you' card ASAP. Let the person know in the card that the card was misplaced and thank them for thinking of you. You do not have to call and ask if it is ok, but, if it makes you feel better you can call them and let them know that you have found it. I think it would be more insulting to ask to cash it.

    Congratulations on your Graduation!

  12. You can cash it, but it would be nice to send a thank you note in advance - explain that you mislaid the card, and will be shortly cashing their thoughtful gift.

  13. yes i think you'll be able to cash it anytime.. also you  should check with the person who worte you the check if its okay to cash it because you wouldnt want it to bounce the both of you

  14. I think it depends. If you are certain they'll have enough money in the account, then yes you should cash it and send a thank you note. If you're not sure if they forgot about it and accidentally spent the money (not everyone balances their checkbook), then I think you should call and mention the check, say thanks, and jokingly ask is it okay for me to still cash this.

    Also, congrats=)

  15. Just cash it. If they balance their check book, they should now that the check hasn't cleared yet. After you cash it, pick up a thank you card and mail it to them.
