Is it still posible to follow what was the silk road and what would the best method of transport be

it probably is posible, but it would be a verry long hot trip. part of the silk road goes through a dessert so you would need some camels, and a verry good guide. there isnt much to see though most of those old trading posts were destroyed hundreds of years ago. it isnt exactly a touristy trip.

Yes it is.  But...

There are acutally several different roads that comprise the "Silk route"  there are a half dozen northern routes and one primary southern route.

You would be using all kinds of different transport.  But primarily bus.  At some point you would have to have private transport of the 4 wheel type.  the terrain varies tremendously but things have modernized a bit and I think that you can dispense with the Camels.

And  there is actually a tour company that specializes in this area.  Tours are offered of different sections of the route but check it out for yourself.
