here's the deal: I started a low-dose bc pill over a week ago (Kariva--also known as "mircette"). I have had little side effects has of yet -- just some mild headaches..Probably from my body adjusting to the new hormones. This is my first time on BC. Can I still get nasty effects (nasea, vomiting, irritability, etc) or is it more likely it would have already happened? I'm hopeful because it's low-dose & I feel okay so far. Any personal experience/advice greatly appreciated. :)

  1. It takes a while for your body to work through the new hormone cycles. You still could have problems even at the low doses. Most of the problems work themselves out after a few months.

You should take the pills at about the same time every day to make sure the hormones stay nicely low dosed. I have heard that Kariva makes migraines worse.

I've taken a few different low dose OBCs over the years. I always get some side effects for the first few months, but the side effects are usually better than the effects of not taking the pills. (Cramps, PMS, babies...)

  2. Some people never get side effects, it is not mandatory to get some. I think you should have experienced side effects if you would get some by now. The more you expect to get side effects the more likely that you get it. Think positive
