Is it still respectful to curtsy?

  1. It is still respectful to curtsey to your own king or queen, and if you travel abroad and meet a king or queen in their own country it is proper either to curtsey as you would to your own monarch or to  make whatever gesture (curtsey, bow, kneel, etc) is normal in that country.

    It is no longer correct in Western society in general to curtsey to anybody but a monarch.

  4. I was taught to always curtsy at the end of a dance.  On stage, of course.

    Yes, actually, when young ladies go for their debut into society (honest, I used to read this stuff, research for a novel...another long story), they have to learn to curtsy, although that MAY be different in different cities.

    And one should curtsy to one's partner after a dance on the dance floor, as well.

    And, of course, if one is a maid in a high class household, it may be expected.
