Is it strange for a guy to get his full driver's license at 26-27 years old?

I'm 22 years old now and I've only started learning to drive recently because I couldn't afford lessons earlier.

Anyway, I've booked my test for my probationary license for November this year. I've told my friend and he seemed shocked because I'll be on my probationary license for 4 years, meaning I'll only get my full license when I'm about 26.

My friend said that most people get their license at 21-23 years old.

I never imagined that getting my driver's license so late would make me less of a man. Should I be worried?

  1. your never two old .im 20 and I cant drive my dad is 55 and he just get his full license.Dont worry

  2. Worried-why be worried? At least you are trying to get your licence .(sorry-license!) In England, it doesn't matter what age you pass your test and it is considered better if you pass at an older age as you are passed the 'boy racer' phase and make a much better driver.

It shouldn't make you any more or less of a man if you have a licence or not... but if you have a car you will get more chances to prove that you are a man, if you catch my drift!

  3. don't no where your from but got mine when i was 16 but i do no some people that got theres when they were in the 30's but they live in the big cities and take taxis and buses every where. so for them no they weren't any less on a man they just got around to it later in life.

  4. im 27 i have my probationary licence which i have had for around 3 years and i still have not started lessons so no its not strange just take your time when it feels right for you and you have the money go for it

  5. I dont see anything strange with that....some opportunities come to some people earlier than the rest....so you shouldn't think that you're strange or that you're less of a man.....

In fact...I got my driver's license and learned to drive when I turned 40.  It's never too late to do and learn new things in life.  My reason for getting my driver's license that late was because I'm pretty nervous about driving...but now that I've tried it....I enjoy the liberty to go around as I please....

So don't mind what other people say...enjoy your new privilege and be a careful and responsible driver....

  6. not at all! dont worry about it...it doesnt make you less of a man. Just dont worry that your friend seemed to be shocked. Besides when your on your p's no one will even notice the difference.

A few of my guy friends dont have their liscences yet because they cant afford to run a car (a common problem for everyone lately)

  7. not strange. just something people aren't used to, but there's nothing wrong with that.

    better late than never :)

  8. Sounds about right to me. Driving is an expensive thing and unless your lucky and have someone helping you there is no way you can afford it. Now you are obviously earning your own way id say 22 is about the right age to be learning to drive. especially if your doing it with all your own finances. nice one!!

  9. Don't worry about it. In cities with great transportation like New York, many men your age don't drive yet either. It's a little unusual, but it doesn't make you less of a man.

  10. No reason to worry! I am a 23 year-old female who is just learning how to drive. The reason I waited so long is that when I was taking driver's ed. my senior year, I ended up having major surgery and was unable to finish the course. Then came college, and I got very busy....Don't feel bad--life happens!! :)

  11. Nope! I didn't get mine until I was 24. My city has great trasportation and I didn't need to. Lots of people in big cities don't drive. You've left a much smaller carbon footprint on the earth! : )

  12. Most people get their license at 16 in the US... I didn't get mine until I was 18 because my parents couldn't afford to pay for driver's ed.
