Is it stupid for a Hollywood native to study Visual Effects abroad?

Strange Question I know, but when I talk about it everyone always thinks it is strange that I'm leaving the movie capital of the world to study a movie-related profession.

I was thinking about studying in Scotland. Thanks for your opinions!
