Is it supposed to hurt when fitting pointe shoes?

I'm new to this thing. I thought the size was incorrect but the lady insists that it is. She got me a pair that was visually shorter in length than my casual slip-on shoes.

  1. No,  Try asking for a 1/2 size larger. That's what I do. It also matters where the shoes were made.

  2. Pointe shoes should not hurt (they might be a little uncomfortable, though) until you actually go onto pointe. Then it will hurt.

    a lot.

  3. A pointe shoe should feel snug, perhaps uncomfortable, but should not hurt.  It could possibly be shorter in length than a slip-on shoe, as long as the arch of the pointe shoe is appropriate for your foot.  Did you tell the sales person that the shoe "hurt"?  Were you able to define for her what about the shoe was hurting you?  If you purchased the shoes, show them to your instructor before you alter them in any way.  He/She will be able to tell you whether they are appropriate or not.

  4. where does it hurt? it really shouldn't hurt, if it hurts your heel the ask for a half side up, if it hurts the ball of your foot like it's squeezing you toes, ask for a larger width.talk to your teacher about them and see what she says, i can't give you a good opinion with out seeing them, you may also want to try a whole different kind of shoe. you should probably go to a different store or ask for another fitter, this one doesn't know what she's doing.good luck finding shoes!

  5. Some beginners find their new pointe shoes slightly tight around the ball of the foot but that should be fine because if the box is too big, you'll get blisters on your toes. However, it should not hurt. Uncomfortable maybe, but if it hurts, then I think it is the wrong size for you. If it hurts your heels, ask for a 1/2 a size larger.

It is actually hard to tell without looking at you wearing it so show it to your teacher before you sew the ribbons or you can go to another store for a fitting.

  6. No. maybe it's not just your size. If you don't feel comfortable wearing it, it's better if you don't.

  7. Sorry to tell you, but pointe shoes are supposed to hurt a little bit, especially before breaking them in! But if they are shorter than your flats, then you should ask for a half size bigger, but a width smaller, for example - if you had a size 4C, you should try 4 1/2 B. but if that dosen't work keep trying shoes on because its really important for them to fit right especially if your new to pointe. Hope this helps!
