Is it tacky to do a diaper raffle at a shower??

I have been reading some posts on different websites and several people think it is a tacky idea, but the posts I have been reading are at least a year and a half old. For those who dont know what a diaper raffle is, it is not mandatory. Basically the guests who chose to participate will get their name entered into a raffle for every pack of diapers they bring and at the end of the shower a name is drawn and the winner will recieve a gift basket or certificate. So what are your opinions??

i say go for it.theres time at a baby shower to do millions of games,the more the better.

I don't think it is tacky at all.  Just another fun and silly shower game.  :)

i think that is awesome. because it helps out the mother. because the expectant mother is going to need lots of diapers. i did not have to buy diapers for my baby for 2 months after she was born

I think baby showers are tacky in themselves. A bunch of women sitting cooing over baby products. This is yet another silly American tradition which will undoubtedly cross the Atlantic and become as ubiquitous as McDonalds without improving our way of life. And why do we have to buy a gift for everything a couple does together nowadays? Flat warming gifts, engagement gifts, wedding presents and now baby showers as well. I hope divorce gifts are the next big thing just so I can deliver them with a wry smile.

So no, I don't think a diaper raffle will make a baby shower tackier than it already is.

I think that is perfectly fine. Even put something about it on the invites, that way the ones who want to participate can be sure to have a pack of diapers and those that think its "tacky" can just buy a different gift. Its cute. But it does kind of leave out those who dont bring diapers.. but again.. if its on the invite then they have a heads up.

I dont think any of the women are going to get something for themself. They are going to give to the mom to be. A gift basket would be an added bonus, BUT those who leave with nothing shouldnt feel slighted as the will have left with exactly what they would have expected to leave with.

i think it would be fun the mom gets diapers and the guest gets a gift also like you said its not mandatory

Sounds like a diaper raffle is tacky!  I usually give a savings bond and some baby clothes!  I figure the clothes can be used now and the bond for college or what ever the baby decides when grown! I give gifts because I like the Mom and Dad; if you have to bribe people to get gifts you have issues other than diaper raffles!
