I have a 2003 Ford Taurus SE. I keep having to put Freon in so the air conditioner will work. How can I tell if the compressor is bad or if I have a leak in the line?

  1. If you have to keep putting freon in, there is a leak.  The auto shop sells a product to put in, to find the leak, then repair it.  (hubby is an A.C. man)

  2. you can buy a special dye at the auto parts store and put it in the line,,where the dye comes out is where the leak is.

  3. Look around the air compressor and see if you see any oil.If there is oil there and you know your car is not leaking motor oil, then your compressor is likely bad.But it could be just a leak in the line. You can have that tested.

  4. If you had a leak on the line you would hear it. (a hissing noise). Solve the leak issue & you will have answered the compressor issue.

  5. ever think it might b leaking out...stop polluting the air and let someone who knows ac fix it.
