  1. I think that the Yankees are in a very tough spot right now.

Ignoring the division for now, the Yankees are 6.5 games behind Boston.  Not only that, they're 3.5 games behind Minnesota.  If Boston goes .500 from here on out (20 - 20) and the twins go 24-18, and if the Yankees go 28 - 13, then the Yankees are in the playoffs.  That's a lot of ifs, and none of them are guaranteed.

I mean, one of three scenarios has to happen:

    1) Boston underperforms (that is, going around. 500 the rest of the way), Twins don't get hot, and Yankees do get hot

    2) Boston and the Twins completely tank it, and the Yankees do at least okay (say, .550-.600 ball)

    3) Boston and the twins play well, and Yankees get INSANELY hot (.750 ball or better)

That's a lot of variables of varying likelihoods in each scenario that you would have to count on for the Yankees to make it.

That's also not including the fact that the Yankees last 19 games are against teams with an average winning pct. of about .560 between them  (it includes 3 against the Angels, 3 against Tampa, 4 against the White Sox, and 3 against Boston).

  2. They're 9 1/2 back in the AL East and 6 1/2 back in the Wild Card. I think the time to panic would have been a long time ago. Good luck!

  3. Not yet If they are this bad in September Give up then, But this August No Time to give up Maybe the Rays or Sox will struggle enough to get you back in the chase.

  4. Yankee fans need not be concerned.  The playoffs is  a right that they enjoy.  If they don't make it, the post season should be canceled.

  5. No. Tampa lost Longoria and Crawford for the season while the Yankees will be getting back Wang, Chamberlain, Matsui, and Hughes by the beginning of September. I think the Red Sox will take the division and the Yankess will slip in to the wild card. After their recent road trip it sounds remote, but there are 40 games left and they take on the Red Sox and Rays head to head a few more times with some of these injured Yanks coming back. It could still get interesting. Ask Boston and Tampa fans if they are no longer worried about the Yankees? There is still some baseball to be played but the Yankees will have to really win 30 of their next 40 starting tonight to make this a reality.

  6. I shudder to think what their record will be at the end of September. They still have to play a series with the Rays and the Red Sox don't they. Ooooohhh that's uggggly!!!
