Is it time for the US to adopt a new currency? Can the dollar still be salvaged?

I mean, the dollar is completly worthless! What are some ways that the US dollar can regain it's value? And why isn't the Dollar backed by gold and silver, like it was back in the day?

What other currency could we use instead of the dollar?

The economic situation in this country scares the c**p out of me.

Instead of the time and money it takes into making a whole NEW currency we can just pretty up our old ones with newer colors(Making some color themes more frequent or common than others) On the bright side, Most food chains do now sport a dollar menu.

its because the government doesn't have anything to back it...no funds. The US is in debt up the u know what...companies, manufacturer's, etc. are upping prices on a pure estimate of what the economy will be like years down the road...This is what is mainly happening with oil companies...prices are not going up due to a shortage of oil, but only the company's estimate of what a future oil shortage would be like. Our economy is seriously going down the drain! I would invest in gold and silver before the dollar is completely useless and yes we need a new currency!!! something that is real and not just an empty promise of the US government!
