What I'm proposing is to take the Open out of these Islands to the Spanish mainland, the weather is good the Spanish love golf and like all good things maybe it's time to take the Open to a new home. I am not saying kill of the British open just down grade it and create a new Major in Spain called the European Masters. Most will be horrified I know but like all good things they have to move on and go where the sun is,the players would like it and so would the crowds once they had got used to the idea. Golf is always at it's best in the sunshine just like people....

  1. Are you kidding!!! Move the oldest tournament in golf, one of the biggest parts of The Open Championship is dealing with the weather. Why don't you Petition the U.S.G.A. and get them to cut the rough in the U.S. Open so it will be easier too. I could not even imagine The Open where St. Andrews and Caroustie were not part of the rotation.

  2. No, too much is lost to Europe, what next move the Queen and the Royal family to the Middle East, leave it alone.

  3. No, Royal Birkdale was very challenging this year and brought out the best in the players.  When people are so talented it is good to give them a challenge.

  4. NO.  Golf is a game with many traditions and one of them is the Open Championship played on links style course in cold, windy, rainy weather.  Golf does not have to be played under perfect conditions in sunshine.  If you want to start a tournament in Spain go right ahead, but don't think the Open is going to move for you.

  5. No because it has been a tradition for the past 100 or so years and is one of the oldest golf tournaments in history. The british open is all about links golf and other european courses won't even come close to matching english and scottish links courses. And of course with links golf, comes very challenging whether which will test all golfer's abilities, as you may have seen at this years open.

  6. No because in my opinion this is a tournament that should be kept in england and it is something for us to be proud of when our courses are used for a open

U dont just need good weather for golf

Personally i think  the typical bad british weather makes it more tricky nd therefore a better tournament to watch.

  7. Golf was invented in Scotland. The Open was the first ever Open Golf competition and it was started in the UK, that is why the UK retain the title "THE Open Golf Championship" whereas others start with the venue country in the name, so we have the history and tradition to uphold.

If people want golf in the sun then fine that's your personal preference and choice, you can go to the American Open or the Spanish Open or any other event in the sun.

If you have ever been to a venue such as St Andrews, Carnoustie, Royal Birkdale or Royal Lytham then you will have experienced and felt the pride golfers have in its UK based history and tradition. These are things to be proud of and celebrate IN THE UK, they are extremely important, so I say no THE Open should stay where it is.

  8. you don't know much about golf do you?

there is already a spanish open and a european masters.

the british open is the oldest major and is also the most reveared and respected by the players past and present.

if you want a major in europe (spain) then why not upgrade 1 of the 2 above because you have no chance of moving the BRITISH open

infact try taking 1 of the 3 majors that the yanks have off of them!

  9. There is already a European Masters. Our Open Championship goes to a new home every year. It's the only Championship I personally go to with my kids.To lose it would be criminal.
