Is it time to set limits on the size of corporations to avoid economic overcontration approaching monopolism?

What would be the pluses or minuses of such size restrictions.

I am motivated to ask this Q because of the way the teetering corporate elephants mentioned below are wrecking the stockmarkets because of their abuses of an unregulated banking and credit system.

That would be setting a very dangerous precedent.  There are already regulations involving monopolies.  If the govt. starts regulating powerful companies approaching monopoly then it is overstepping its bounds.  It's also overstepping its bounds if it uses my tax dollars to bail these corporations out.  Just as us individuals are responsible for managing our own money, it's up to these corporations to be wise with theirs.  I say let them go down in flames and learn to be more responsible with money.  The government could sure use a lesson in the wise use of money as well.
