Question:

Is it time to switch hair stylists once again?

I have tried about 5 different stylists in the past 5 years and each time my hair color has been messed up. I got a few who disregarded what I said and did what they wanted and a few who totally botched up my color but of course will tell you it looks good. I have dark brown hair and have always dyed it lighter, either brown shades or highlights. I have been overcharged once paying 280 for orange highlights and lowlights you could not see or had brassy yellow highlights with black roots. Each time I specifically told my colorists what I did and did not want and have been told "how great my hair looked" when it looked horrible. Each of these colorists I have given a few trys but ended up leaving eventually. My hair is dark brown so I know it is tough to lighten espeically when my hair has been dyed so many times but I know it is possible. The last time I went I wanted a cinnamon color. The color looked red and then within 2 weeks faded to some orangy shade and now for whatever reason has completely washed out so I have orange ends, highlights coming through, and dark roots. This is all after ONLY a month. I may add that many of these places came recommended and were high end, which in the end means nothing. I am now going to another place, never been to before and am going to request someone with experinece who knows how to work with dark hair. Am I doing the right thing and why can't these colorists get my hair looking good actually.

  1. Wow, I've been there, a good stylist is not easy to find, which is why I've been caring for my own hair for the past few years. I found one good stylist, but she was sooo far away and gas is too high. Taking care of hair is serious business, you are doing right by leaving when they mess up, in my opinion a good stylist is honest, it's a horrible thing to tell a client something looks good when in reality it's terrible. I'll deal with flat hair, or too much hair spray, but no stylist, I mean no stylist under any circumstances will cut or color my hair the wrong way, that's something you actually have to live with for a while, when you pay someone to do your hair, they should do it the right way, and you shouldn't have to worry about anything. I think you did right by quitting them, but I couldn't tell you exactly why they can't color right, maybe they slept through class, maybe they was off their rocker, maybe they didn't know what they were doing, you just never know. But get you an honest stylist that will do your hair the right way, and give you your money's worth. Good Luck, I hope you find what you're looking for.
