Hi, im 17 and will be a senior in high school. I have never tried any form of acting in my life. A few days ago a thought poped into my head that hey, maybe I wan't to be a actor. I see that actors seem to get their start from a young age, and was wondering if it was to late. I also had no idea where to even start, im sure it would be very tough to instead of going to college for a degree in say engineering, pursue acting. I am clueless in where to even start, and I will admit scared to get onstage and take the leap into a unceratin life. I have heard that acting is very hard to get into, and also very competetive and I am afraid that I don't have the time or oportunity to make my dream a reality. I also have a dorsal hump on my nose and have thought that this may hinder my chances, I also am unsure if I have the looks of a actor, but this is probably normal, I have always been shy, but I feel that this is something I really want to do, this could just be a phase but I don't kno

  1. it is a hard field to become successful in...but it's never too late! however, if you do succeed, the rewards are great. my suggestion in to go to college and have a minor in the arts, or do some acting on the side. as long as you put your mind to something, it can happen! just be at the right place at the right time! :D good luck!

  2. It's never too late. Many famous actors don't start until they're older...and that's probably a lot easier since they don't have that "child star" image with them forever.

Try participating in drama club or a drama class at your school and audition for their plays. Try some stuffy out to make sure you actually want to pursue this.

Then once you know whether you enjoy it or not you can try for some local community plays or theatre groups in your area.

Looks hardly matter in the growing stages of acting, and it should be more about your skills anyway.

And as for stage-fright, it's simple to get over once you make a fool of yourself a few times =D

But that's the beauty of acting, taking chances and trying things that you might not do, but a certain character you're portraying might. It's good to go outside your comfort zone in all aspects of life.

As for the degree part, it's true that acting isn't exactly the most practical career choice...but what I'm going to do is major in something practical (still unknown, and I'm the same age as you), then either minor or double major in theatre/acting. And no matter how my career life turns out, I'll always do acting at least on the side.

    Hope this helps!

  3. You are never too young to become an actor. for an example, Orlando Bloom didnt start acting professionally till he graduated college at like 22.

About being shy, I was very very very shy untill I started participating in the theatre program at the local college. I was basically forced by my director to become a ***** when I was in the theatre because I ended up being the stage manager.

It is a very hard feild to get in to.  But, Harrison Ford was told at every audition tat he SHOULD NOT be an actor and basicaly that he sucked. But look where he is now. Its all because he believed in himself and his dream.

    Break a leg!!

look into acting schools like Royal academy of music and drama

American academy of Music and Drama

    the ACT

    A.C.T

and there are plenty f others.
