I am in Richmond, Virginia and it rarely snows here. Last year everyone who came to the party had on long sleeves, but not many jackets. It was inside last year, but the kids destroyed my house. The party will be for a soon to be 2 year old.

  1. Doesn't it snow in Virginia? ... I think you're taking your chances, unless you have a covered patio and rent outdoor heaters

  2. The best answer to that question is... maybe.  Typically it doesn't start to get REALLY cold in the Richmond area until December or January.  September and October are usually rather warm, and a jacket is rarely needed.  As you said, November is typically a time when long sleeves are needed, but not a jacket/coat.  Then again, another reason people may not have had a jacket was because they were NOT going to be outside.  Also, it is more prone to rain in Virginia in the fall, so there is probably a better than average chance that an outdoor party could be rained out.

If you want to have the party outdoors, I would suggest having a tent, possibly even the type that has "panels" on the side that could be lowered in the event of rain/wind.  Or, just be prepared to move it indoors if the weather isn't cooperative.  Also, make sure your guests know that the party will be outside, so that they may dress appropriately (i.e, layers);  This is especially true if there will be young children present.
