  1. We start outdoor training in IL in May.  It is 60-70 degrees outdoor and the water temp is 84 degrees.  I think swimming in 80 degrees is FINE as long as it is not ice water :)  If it is colder water (like from a hose) than limit the time and take warm baths afterward :)

  2. You are being a little too protective. I loved to swim when I was a kid, and I do not live in a climate as warm as in Arizona. We went swimming in 60 degree weather and were fine. I wish it was close to 80 degrees every time I go swimming.

Bottom line- 80 degrees is great swim weather!

  3. ITs deffinately ok to swim in 80 degree weather. Surfers even go out into the cold ocean to surf. If you are that concerned, buy a wetsuit. It will keep your child plenty warm.

  4. I say no.

80 degrees is just fine enough to swim.

I wish it were 80 here in NC.

  5. depends on what too cold is. is ur child very competitive, and swims everyday? in my opinion, 80 degrees is not very cold.

  6. The water temperature is more important than the air temperature.

When I was a kid, my coach had a rule that we would have workout as long as the air temperature was above 28 degrees. [I think below 28, ice would form on the deck, and he was afraid he might slip!). We were fine because the water temperature was about 85.

Tell us what the water temperature is, and I'll tell you if it's cold.
