Question:

Is it too early to harvest my pumpkins?

I have never grown pumpkin before but I have been quite happy with the growth of the vines and the pumpkins themselves. Two of the pumpkins have already turned orange. I did not expect this. I thought that pumpkins would not be ready until autumn. Is it too early to pick them now? Should I leave them on the vine until it dies out and then pick them?

  1. I think its a great time to harvest your pumpkins.

  2. You answered your question with your last sentence. Wait until the runners and foliage have died off then harvest the pumpkins carefully, don't break the stalks and store  in a dry place.

  3. A pumpkin will store for up to 45 days in a cool area with no direct sunlight.I would not pick them until mid September.
