Is it too expensive?

Sorry to repost, I accidentally deleted my last one.

This may seem like a weird question. But I'm redoing my bedroom and I'd like to know if it's too expensive or not. I know pretty much nothing about furniture prices and what's too expensive versus what's not.

So here it is...

- A full sized bed with a tall headboard and footboard

- A night stand with a drawer and a small cabinet with two doors

- A pretty big six drawer dresser

- A large square mirror big enough to go over the dresser

- A desk with two drawers and two tall cabinets

- tall but narrow round table with a drawer

All made of real solid hardwood with mahogany finishing, stain and scratch resistant (I've tested it myself) and very durable.

All together, it's $1,370. Is that a good deal?

  1. YIKES. That sounds like way too good of a deal to me. For my mattress and box spring alone, I spent over half of what you plan to spend on all your furniture. A decent large dresser with large mirror usually runs no less than $1000 in my experience. You're getting way too good of a deal........something's up. Unless you're buying from someplace other than an actual furniture store....some place like Kmart or WalMart (not necessarily those stores). I've seen furniture clearance stores that SAY they sell the furniture that their parent store can't sell and that goes pretty cheap at the clearance centers, but the furniture they have is NOT the same quality as a regular furniture store.

I'd really be cautious of this deal and shop around. Your parents should be well aware of what furniture costs. Talk it over with them. If something seems like it's too good of a deal to be real, it most likely is.

    Good luck!

EDIT~~since it IS from Wal Mart, I don't believe it's truly SOLID hardwood like they claim. I'd guess something like a wood veneer. Considering where the set is from, I'd say it's high. The quality is NOT what you would get at a regular furniture store, so it's not as likely to last so long.

  2. It all depends on how much YOU are willing to spend.   If you think that's too much, then it probably is.  If it is going to put you in a tight spot so you cannot pay your bills, then it's too much, if you like it, and are not being overstretched moneywise, go for it.

  3. No, that's a good price from your description. If you can afford good furniture like that, you can keep it your whole life too.

  4. That's a REALLY GOOD price! A lot of the things my husband and I looked at, when searching for a bedroom set were beyond that price. That price alone only paid for like the headboard, nightstand, and frame or something.

  5. That sounds like a VERY good deal, and you can keep those things for a very long time.  :)

  6. I would just make sure that the headboard and footboard will hold a queen mattress in case you ever decide to go to queen size!

  7. it is but 2 save money i wuold do this:

paint the furniture u have and start wit a base coat. Then another coat of what u want. If it's broken or damaged though, see if u can repair it BY URSELF. if not then get a new 1. u can buy the mirror, round tabel and the big 6 drwer, but i wuold save on the rest by just painting. get a new bedspread or something - that could change alot!

  8. That is a good price for furniture especially if you like the style because you will keep it a long time but don't buy anything you can't afford to pay for. Then it will be too expensive no matter what it costs.

  9. Almost sounds too cheap for solid hardwood.
