We let the painter paint our front door black at his suggestion and we liked it at first but now we definitely don't. We want it white. We are worried that we won't be able to get the the door back to totally white. The house is butter yellow with white trim, white garage door and black lantern lights at side of garage and front porch. He thought a black door would look nice but it's too much black. We would like it to be a white door with a black door lock set.

  1. actually painting darker things back to light is no more difficult than painting lighter things dark.

As someone who does a vast amount of DIY, I can tell you that of course its going to take more than one coat, but the same holds true of going light to dark, since the lighter paint will often show through.

make sure that you prime the door prior to painting and thats going to help you a great deal and get a good quality paint as opposed to the thinner, less expensive variety..

  2. Hi, OK what you do is OK,

give it 2 undercoat of white, sorry no getting away from it for a perfect finish, really sand the door down first thou and in between the coats use finishing paper for a key for the next paint layer, make sure the under coat is oil based and not acrylic ( as this is water based ) then you will achieve your white door
