The paint can says don't use above 90 degrees. The high for the day is going to be 95, but I was planning to stain in the morning before it hits 90+. Does it mean don't stain on days 90+ or just when you're actually applying the stain?

  1. It's when you are applying the stain, less hot better bond.

  2. That temperature rating is given so that the stain has a chance to penetrate into the wood. Too hot or too much sunlight (UV rays) and the sealer will dry before it reaches it correct penetration level.

If the is deck dry when you get up in the morning and the temperature in below 80 start right away. like around 5 to 5:30 AM. This way by the time the temperature hits over 90 then the stain will have had the chance to soak in.

And since this is a do it yourself project, you can do half the deck today and half the deck tomorrow.

  3. do it before you hit 90+ and you'll be ok. Make sure surfaces are well clean and GREASE FREE. EG: touching it with your fingertips will leave grease. (afraid so..)

if they are greasy, it won't soak so well in the grease spot.

  4. Start as early as the deck is dry from the dew. The 90 degrees will cause the stain to dry before being absorbed into the wood. So get up, let it dry then go for it! The temp after application should make no difference.

  5. When you are actually applying the stain. Doing it in the morning is fine.  For for paint company in Tx.
