Is it too late for financial aid if it has already been applied for?

Ok, so I applied for financial aid, for 2007-2008. Then I paid for it myself because ...ok..I am nutty like that and felt guilty for getting government aid, even though I qualify. So now it said that I am approved but need to bring tax forms and stuff, which I have. My question is ...is it too late to get that money?

  1. I think the deadline has passed on that one. I know my school called me like a month ago and told me to pick up my check before the 5th. The best bet would be to call your school's financial department and ask. Also, go ahead and put in for your 08-09 year.

  2. i did the same thing. i applied late and still got financial aid and the school refunded me the money i gave them.

  3. You can probably complete the paper work, have the funds dispersed to your school and get a refund from the school.  Double check with the financial office at your school.  I've seen people do this before.  They cover their classes when funds are late to make sure they will not be washed out.

  4. If you did not accept it, it was most likely given to another studednt that requested it. Contact your financial aid office to see what your options are.

  5. Every college has a financial aide person. Go talk to him/her and they will be able to give you good accurate information.

  6. Yes they will refund your tuition payments for spring 08 and fall 07.  2007-08 deadline is June 30, 2008.

  7. The 2007-2008 aid goes till July.  Usually schools disperse once in the fall (August-September), once in the spring (January-February), and if you have not used financial aid (pell grants and federal loan amounts) or have some left...you can tap into it during the summer time. It is not to late to apply even though a deadline is given.  The financial aid is based on availability each year.  I have never met anyone who has not been able to get financial aid later in the year (pell grants or loans) because it has ran out.  So thats good news  :).

Also:  There are grants that have been available that are supplementary because of the rising cost of living.  They are given on a first come first serve basis.  If you get you're 2008-2009 FAFSA in soon you could qualify for these.  I got two additional ones...so it helped more.
