Question:

Is it too late for me to start learning to dance?

I am a huge fan of the musical CATS, and I would love nothing more than to be able to dance as well as they do.

The characters all seem to be very young, perhaps in their 20s.

I am 16 years old and I would really love to learn ballet.

But there are two problems... Is 4 years enough time for me to become really good?

And, i cannot afford the lessons... Is there a way i can learn ballet without attending lessons? Perhaps a DVD or online lessons that are free?

Anything like that.

  1. I don't think it is too late. If you have the passion and the drive anything is possible. You would probably need to learn from a professional school of dance. Dancers who are in musicals are very talented and gifted. They usually have years of dancing at places the one listed below....

    Have a Nice dAncIng Experience..

  3. its possible to become a good dancer in 4 years with persistance and hard work, but to teach yourself is pretty impossible for ballet!

your teacher corrects your body allignment, pushes you and teaches new moves and steps.

if you cant afford lessons, maybe you could see if they do dance at your school, or some community centres offer creative dance classes for cheap!

also, dancers must have flexibility, so something you can do at home, without paying money, is STRETCH!

you may not know what stretches will help you, so you could go to a stretch class for a few lessons to learn the stretches that will help you!

    good luck

  4. no i don't think its to late.

my sister just took up dancing and performing. she does ballet and that is one of the hardest dances to just jump in to. she is 15 years old. she is very good at it now, and has a lead and she has only been doing it for a little less then a year. but what you wanna do is take as many classes as you can, work out and do yoga cause it loosens up your body, which will make it easier for you to pick up dance.

if you want some ideas on places that you can go just get back to me.

  5. you are never too young to dance!

Although! Ballet is a very difficult form of dance, and you need to have years of experience to be able to be a preoffessional ballerina. You probably would have needed to have started young, unless you have natural talent.

and without proffessional lessons, it would be difficult for you to ge the right technique. A ballet teacher is the only person who could pick up on your flaws and fix them, so you can get better technique.

16 isn't too old to start ballet, just not proffessionally.

    good luck (Y)
