Question:

Is it too late for my Olympic dream?

I am nineteen years old, and have always dreamed of competing in the Olympics. I did gymnastics for seven years as a child and my coaches wanted me to advance to upper level competition, but my parents said no. Years later, I am thinking I might be too old for that sport, but might still be young enough to compete in some other events. I am about 5'2", 110 lbs, and am in decent shape (I plan to get in better shape once I have a goal laid down). Does anyone have advice or suggestions for me in choosing a sport and training regimen? Thanks!

  1. in reality, it's too late. that's because the kids at the olympics eg. China have already started training before school age and they have never stopped training since.

by 10 they would have been selected by provincial teams in the country and they are taking part in championships around the world when they are 14. after winning the medal, most of them retire after they have won the Olympic medals and work as coaches.

and actually if you want to take part in the olympics, you would have to wait another four years for london 1012. by then you would be 23 and you wouldn't want to be standing among kids who are 8 years younger than you, would you?

perhaps you can try to be a coach and nurture future olympians :)

  2. Of course not!!

  3. Personally i would suggest always trying for 2012 london olympics and you never know. If i were you, I would go for my best section (e.g. floor exersize, vault, etc.) or if you are good at most of them, do all around.

    Hope this helps!

    I AM A PHELPS PHAN!

  4. I would say you are to old. You would be 23 or 24 by the next Olympics.

The only event you may be able to compete in are the non physical events such as shooting.
